Relationship Therapy Amsterdam

Hello,

I'm Seval, a psychologist of Turkish descent specializing in emotionally focused couples therapy, available in both English and Turkish.

When issues surface within relationships, it's common for partners to primarily focus on their individual experiences, which is a natural response. In strained relationships, individuals often feel hurt, and it's understandable that their first instinct is to concentrate on their pain in an effort to alleviate it. However, this self-focus can further hinder understanding of each other's perspectives.

In such circumstances, relationship therapy provides an opportunity to step back and view the relationship from a more objective standpoint, with the guidance of a third party—the therapist.

As an EFT therapist, my role is to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients, allowing them to not only empathize with their partner's experiences but also gain a profound understanding of their own emotions. This approach helps to uncover the underlying issues within the relationship and paves the way for actions to repair and strengthen it.

About Me:

I graduated from Boğaziçi University's Psychology department in 2007, followed by a master's degree in clinical psychology at Istanbul University. I'm currently pursuing my Ph.D. in psychology at Goethe University, Frankfurt focusing on the role of mentalization capacity (the ability to reflect on mental states) in acculturation among immigrants. 

Before establishing my own practice, I accumulated years of experience as a psychologist, working in various institutions in Turkey. One of these was the largest mental health hospital in Turkey, where I had the opportunity to assist clients with a wide range of mental health concerns. Throughout my career, I have provided therapy to individuals with histories of trauma, as well as those dealing with depressive and obsessive symptoms, self-esteem, anxiety, and relationship challenges.

Adım Seval. Türkiye kökenli bir psikolog olarak Amsterdam'da Duygu Odaklı Çift terapisi yürütüyorum.

Birlikteliğinde birtakım sıkıntılar baş gösterdiğinde partnerler çoğunlukla kendi deneyimlerine yoğunlaşır. Bu çok anlaşılır bir tutumdur. Çıkmaza girmiş bir ilişkide bireylerin canı acıyordur ve canı acıyan birinin en doğal tepkisi o acıya odaklanıp acıyı dindirmeye çalışmak olur. Bu nedenle eşlerin birbirlerini anlamaları daha da zorlaşır ve işler içinden çıkılamaz bir hal alabilir. Böyle bir anda çift terapisi, ilişkiye ve ilişki içindeki kendinize bir üçüncünün varlığında bakma fırsatı sunar.

Duygu-odaklı çift terapisti olarak benim rolüm danışanlarıma güvenli ve tarafsız bir ortam sunmak, danışanlarımın kendi duygularını derinlemesine anlarken eşlerinin deneyimiyle de özdeşim kurabilmelerini sağlamaktır.
